Being subject to Fitness to Practise proceedings is a very serious and potentially career-limiting scenario. You can therefore appreciate how difficult of a time it can be, and the stress on a student can quickly become overwhelming. After a quick telephone chat with Ms Gill, it was clear that I was talking to someone who was well experienced and passionate in this niche-field.
During the initial meeting it was impressive how quickly Ms Gill was able to interpret the sheer amount of information I supplied and then develop a fitting action plan. I left the initial consultation feeling confident and reassured. Ms Gill was very good in keeping in contact, providing updates and always helpful with any questions I had.
I feel having Ms Gill ‘in my corner’ was invaluable in achieving the outcome we did, and I am very grateful for her efforts. I would thoroughly recommend her to any other students who unfortunately find themselves in similar situations.
I was suspended from Medical School.
I did use another Firm initially, as I didn’t know about Charles & Co at the time, for the first stage of a process similar to an Appeal. This was a mistake, as it was all very rushed and they did not seem very willing. As a result, I feel as though I did not put forward my case as well as I could have (and I also did not really know to do it), and so lost the first stage.
After much disappointment, I decided to Appeal the School’s decision, and spoke to a couple of other Firms, one of whom mentioned Charles & Co (and specifically Sukhvir Gill). As my parents and I could not make it to either the London or Birmingham offices, we had a Skype consultation instead. And from speaking to her, I could see she was experienced, had genuine interest and was passionate about her job. After she took on my case, Miss Gill was patient and took a great deal of care, and even more than I was expecting, e.g. going through all the documents (there were a lot of them!), chased things up, always keeping me updated, answering any questions I had etc. Anyone else who was aware of my situation knew that I had a strong case anyway, as too did Miss Gill, as she helped to frame my Appeal in such a way of highlighting the key issues that they could not be disputed.
I don’t believe myself, or any other lawyer would have done as good a job as Miss Gill did to fight for my rights. There is the element of cost, but for the job that she has done, and what I have gained in return (i.e. getting my life back together again and reaching my goal of becoming the doctor I know I can be), it’s all been worth it! Going through something like this can be very challenging and demoralising, but her perseverance was very encouraging. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to thank Miss Gill enough, and I thoroughly recommend her!
You have been a great help. Thanks for accepting it despite the short time available. You grasped the details of the case and all the regulations quickly and found several grounds to appeal. Your turnaround time for reacting to any new info is impressive. Thank you.
I will like to thank you again for all your support and kindness, for believing in me and fighting tirelessly for me. Words cannot express my gratitude
I want to say a huge thank you for all your help. Yes I may have paid for your services, but you did give me the reassurance I needed during such a difficult time. You did not at any point give me false hope and was direct in all matters – which is why I decided I wanted you to fight this for me. You kept me updated throughout and was so easy to get a hold of when needed. I wouldn’t need to think twice about recommending you to anyone in the future. My sincere gratitude.
I just wanted to take this opportunity, after all this time to thank you for all you help, your legal advice and for making the University of Reading’s International Development Department think, update and structure their policies regarding studying abroad in an honest, transparent and professional manner!
Having suffered from what I knew was a bad decision from the institution I was studying at, I felt helpless to fight back against this decision. On contacting Sukhvir, my immediate concerns and nerves were put at immediate ease. I’ve never had to consult with a professional in the law industry before but her confidence and her ability to articulate the thoughts to do with the case so eloquently and professionally ensured there and then that I would enlist her help. Thorough to every last detail, she ensured that I was not only able to appeal my decision, but get the original finding of the case against me over turned and eventually over thrown. Not only was my decision successful, but there were others indicted in the case who had their punishments significantly reduced or thrown out. This decision has now enabled me to graduate with my cohort and begin my professional career in my area of choice, a decision which would have been unfathomable without the help of Sukhvir. I’ll never be able to thank her enough for all she did for me.
I would like to thank you sincerely for all the excellent advice, guidance and support that you have provided us during the course the last few weeks. Without having the benefit of your professional knowledge and expertise, the outcome that you have achieved has extended beyond the impact on one individual. As a result of your professionalism and your expertise I believe that in future the university will ensure that its adheres to the correct disciplinary procedures and practices and that students are treated fairly
“I was very fortunate to have somebody with your talent assisting me.”
“May I thank you for the excellent service and support you have provided to us over the last couple of months without which the outcome could have been different. We sincerely appreciate it.”
“Throughout Sukhvir was there to answer any of my questions and concerns and I felt she went that extra mile to help me in my situation.”
“Charles & Co Solicitors dealt with my case very professionally and truly with my best interests at heart. They were very clear about what they could do and very up front with the costs. I was impressed at the experience they’ve had with dealing with medical school students. I could not have asked for a better service and found their advice invaluable throughout the unpleasant process that student review hearings are. I would not be continuing in medicine without their help.”
Ms Gill has a great amount of experience in academic appeal processes which she had utilised to help with my case quickly, in time for all my important deadlines. She was approachable, helpful and friendly during the whole process.
With the information I had provided, Ms Gill had successfully compiled my submission and all the evidence needed for the review meeting within a week. She was also there via email or phone call for any enquires I had. Even when she was busy she would get back to me promptly. I was able to win my case and the medical school overturned their decision to terminate my studies. I hope those that are reading my testimony know there is hope and you can get through this. Be assured you are in good and capable hands of Ms Gill, who will give you the best possible, fighting chance.
On arrival at Charles and Co we met with Ms Gill who immediately came across as very well educated on the matter of educational law. I instantly felt a lot better about the whole situation. Additionally, Ms Gill came across as very thorough in her work as she asked me many questions regarding my current situation. I felt all aspects on my matter were being covered while in this meeting. Upon leaving the initial meeting Ms Gill emphasised I could be in contact with her as much as I thought necessary. This was very comforting. Post meeting Ms Gill kept me informed with all of what she was doing in regards to my matter. Additionally, Ms Gill wrote a statement that was submitted prior to my AEP meeting which was of a unbelievably high standard. This gave me much needed confidence. On the whole I cannot say with confidence my matter would have been resolved in the same way without the help of Ms Gill. It was money and time well spent and I cannot be more grateful for her services.
Thank you for your assistance, your organisation is the best.
“I employed Ms Gill to prepare and present my case for a senate hearing at Sheffield University. I found her to be very friendly, yet professional and presented my case in the best light. I am very pleased to say this resulted in a successful outcome. I only regret that I did not employ her for the initial hearing, as I believe that with her help, I would have been successful at that hearing and would not have needed to appeal to the senate”
Just wanted to drop you a note of thanks for your advice, it was really useful and helped me to see the situation clearly. We were really impressed and grateful for the trouble you took to provide advice that was honest and genuine. Your blog is really useful and it is good to see the frustrations with the academic complaints procedures and OIA process are shared by professionals also.
I would like to thank you for your work, I am very happy with it. I am happy to recommend your services to anyone. It was a pleasure to meet you.
I am very happy that the matter is resolved now and deeply grateful for your services. After our appointment I felt really confident that with your help the matter would be resolved. It was a real pleasure to meet you and work with you and I wish you all the best for your future.
